Results From The FIMS : Far-ultraviolet Characteristics Toward The Lupus Loop
Abstract
The Lupus Loop is known as old supernova remnant, and has been observed in radio and X-ray wavelength range. We present far-ultraviolet images and spectra of the Lupus Loop region observed with FIMS (Far-ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph; also known as SPEAR) which is a main payload onboard the first Korean scientific satellite, STSAT-1. The FIMS has an unprecedented wide field-of-view, and thus is suitable to the study of global features in diffuse interstellar medium. The spatial intensity distribution in L-band(1330-1720Å) showed a close correlation with the maps which had been observed in other wavelength range, such as hydrogen 21cm emission map, ROSAT 0.25 keV soft x-ray map, and SFD dust map. We also divided the Lupus Loop region into several regions, and investigated their spectral characteristics; C IV, Si II, and O VI emission lines were detected in some sub-regions although the signal intensities were rather week.
